For a kitchen, a chandelier can be too much. I would recommend track lighting; they can be moved to where they're needed, yet they have a bright, ambient glow.

Pendant Lights are a great choice if you are planning on directing light at one certain area such as over a prep sink or bar. Chandeliers are more for lighting up larger areas such as over the kitchen table or over the island.
You can however use several pendant lights in a row to create more light where needed.
Its all personal choice. I suggest that you look online at what other people have done and see what you like.

Hope that helps and good luck on your project.

I am trying to lighten up my kitchen more. Thinking it would look good to get rid of the fluorescent lighting and replace with pendant lighting or a chandelier...

Do pendant lights give off a decent amount of light for a large kitchen or would a chandelier be a better bet?
